As a cold front moves through the area, numerous severe thunderstorms are projected for the DC/Metro area throughout the day on Monday, May 16, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

While damaging winds are the main threat, large hail, isolated tornadoes and flash flooding are also possible.

The weather is expected to change rapidly later in the morning throughout the afternoon, with the best chance of storms between 2 and 7 p.m., NWS said.

In response to the inclement weather, Anne Arundel County and Baltimore County cancelled all after school and evening activities. Howard County also announced an early dismissal for their schools.
